Kalgoorlie Bound for Spring Racing.

Kalgoorlie’s Spring Racing Carnival or “the Round”, as the locals call it, has been a fixture on the racing scene since the very beginning of Kalgoorlie’s goldrush days. The corsets and bonnets have made way for fascinators and colourful suits, with this year marking one of the most memorable Race Round’s on record.

Come the end of September, thousands of people descend on Kalgoorlie-Boulder to bask in the spring-time wonder of one of Australia’s oldest country cups. The City comes alive, with not a hairdressing appointment in sight, restaurants booked solid and revelry continuing long into the night, for days on end. That is the allure of Kalgoorlie’s Race Round; plenty of fun, plenty of activity and a town simply buzzing with excitement.

2021 festivities began with the official welcome Cocktail Party at the Chinese Memorial Gardens, leading into the Hannans Handicap and the phenomenal fillies that took home the coveted Fashions of the Field accolades.

The Barefoot on Brookman luncheon saw 500 local lasses dance the day away at the iconic Hannans Club, whilst down the road, West Coast Eagles megastars wowed the KBRC’s Sportsmans’ lunch

The Kalgoorlie Cup, the real jewel in the crown, was whooped in by 10,000 merry revelers.

The city came alive with luncheons, traditional Calcutta’s and parties. Kalgoorlie-Boulder was certainly bursting at the seams with every room of accommodation, every restaurant table, every pub chair (and many couch surfers), delighting in what Kalgoorlie does best.

And that’s to open its’ arms and welcome anyone who wants to bask in just a little bit of the Kal spirit.

Those who are lucky enough to experience Kalgoorlie’s Race Round know that you leave with a smile on your face and hopefully, a few more bucks in your pocket.

The Race Round occurs in late September/early October annually. Book your accommodation now through the Kalgoorlie Visitor Centre on www.kalgoorlietourism.com and visit www.kbrc.com.au for racing dates.
